Trump Claim Calif Needs To Water Its Trees And Is Declared ‘Stunningly Ignorant’

Politifact ,,, the L-A Times … news agencies across the country are weighing in president Trump’s pronouncement on California’s fires.

In a midnight Tweet … the president blamed the blazes on the state’s environmental policies.

Trump claimed that water that could be used to fight the fires was “foolishly being diverted into the Pacific Ocean.”

Stunningly ignorant … said the L A Times.

The assistant director of CalFire tells the New York Times “We have plenty of water to fight these wildfires, but let’s be clear: It’s our changing climate that is leading to more severe and destructive fires.”

Trump appears to have his issues mixed up.

Agribusiness interests in the San Joaquin Valley have been pressuring the federal government to give them more water for pistachio and almond trees … and other cash crops.

Those trees … planted in deserts … are dying because the large corporations that planted them took a gamble that they would get irrigation water … from the federal and state irrigation systems.

But that water is committed to proectuing salmon int he rivers … which migrate to the ocean and need water to do that.

Climate change and the drought put an end to the agribusiness water claims..

The President also said Caklifornia environmental laws are getting in the way of clearing dead trees in forests.

State officials say trees are being thinned … just not enough of them.

That’s because the Trump administration has cut the budget for that.
