Topanga Closure Will Detour Traffic Thru Malibu – Thanks Guys
Written by 991KBU on July 27, 2018
Get ready for a big weekend long traffic jam on P C H in eastern Malibu.
And we mean … probably even worse than normal.
Much worse.
Caltrans will close Topanga Canyon Boulevard … starting tonight at 10 … and stretching through Saturday and Sunday until 5 in the morning Monday.
The 55 hour closure will allow crews to swarm lower Topanga Canyon and do emergency repair and restoration to an eroded slope embankment along Topanga Creek.
That hillside slid during the rainy season last winter and caused debris to flow onto Topanga Canyon Blvd., triggering full closures of the highway.
Topanga Canyon will be closed between Pacific Coast Highway and Grand View Dr. up in the town of Topanga.
The posted detour will be P C H and Malibu Canyon Road … so Malibu will be a total zoo.
We’ve already seen traffic jams on PCH at Topanga Beach … where some drivers have actually stopped in the PCH traffic lanes to read the flashing sign warning of impending doom.
Whenever there’s a roadblock on Topanga at the beach … the traffic immediately jams on PCH as individual drivers feels the need to wait to talk to the CHP officer to see if it is all true.
Extra special problem:
Waze will be sending southbound traffic around the closure via canyon roads … like Tuna Canyon Road … which ends at the stop sign at P C H.
During the last closure … we saw two crashes occur there …. where impatient drivers dart out onto PCH and get smushed.
There is no mention on the C H P or City fo Malibu website ….if traffic control will be placed there.
The betting line is 4 to 1 that there will be crash.
