Two Men With BB Gun Arrested After Shooting At Signs From SUV On Civic Center Way

Two men driving around Malibu with a BB gun … that looked just like a rifle … were arrested after shooting at roadsigns in the Civic Center area yesterday afternoon..

The men cruised around inside the Pepperdine University campus for 20 minutes. … before they were arrested by sheriff’s deputies … on the campus.

Deputies got multiple reports of a white SUV with a gun pointed out the driver’s window … spotted driving on Pacific Coast Highway.

Two students at the shopping center on Cross Creek also spotted the gun sticking out of the SUV.

The students told the Pepperdine Graphic newspaper that they saw the SUV drive to the traffic light at Civic Center Way at Malibu Canyon Road .. where shots were fired towards road signs.

The students … in the car behind .. took videos of that.

The SUV then drove onto the campus … and entered past the security gate using the lane for Pepperdine permit holders.

Witnesses told the Pepperdine Graphic newspaper that the SUV headed towards the upper campus.

It may have been on the campus for 20 to 30 minutes.

Sheriff’s deputies and Pepperdine Public Safety police stopped the vehicle on the campus … near the western gate … and took two men into custody.

They also seized a BB gun.

University officials first alerted the community through email and an automated phone call at 3:04 p.m. … according to the campus newspaper.

Students in classrooms got the alarms … and pulled lockdown activators … which supposedly seal classrooms and lecture hall door locks..

However … one major building’s lockdown system failed to activate …

School officials said there was a software failure.

School officials told the campus newspaper that the SUV is not registered through the university.

But it had been issued a parking citation on the Pepperdine campus in February … but was not seen on campus again until last Monday …  the first day of classes for undergraduates.

It’s not known yet … who the suspects are … or what they are being charged with.

Motorcyclist Splitting Lanes And Driving On Shoulder Killed On 101

A motorcyclist who had been swerving in and out of traffic on the 101 freeway … even using the shoulder to pass vehicles … ran off the highway and was killed yesterday.

It happened just after 6 a.m. Wednesday morning, on westbound 101 freeway just west of the Las Posas road onramp.

Witnesses told officers that the cyclist was serving across lanes to pass people, and at one point was passing people on the shoulder.

The motorcycle went onto the dirt shoulder, and crashed into a fence.

The 25-year-old Oxnard man was thrown off of the motorcycle. He later died at a hospital.

City Study For Vacant Land Preferences Enters 2nd Phase, Is Blasted For Coming Up With ‘Commercial Development’

The second phase of the city’s efforts to find out what Malibu residents want to do with five vacant pieces of land … owned by the city … begins today.

Ten possibilities have emerged for the vacant lands … in the first round of suggestion taking.

Nearly 800 suggestions have been made … in the first round of questionnaires … surveys and public meetings.

All this is not without controversy.

Some people have taken to social media to express anger that the city reached out to people who are not Malibu residents.

And those responses were included in the 10 categories of potential uses … that are now being evaluated for further consideration in Phase 2.

The five vacant lots are up Trancas Canyon road … the vacant lot near Hethercliff Road atop Point Dume … the triangle lot at the corner of PCH and Webb Way … the chili cookout site … and up behind the new Cross Creek ranch commercial development.

Controversy has arisen over some of the proposed uses.

One proposal … selling the city land for commercial use like business development or a parking lot… has really angered some people.

The city’s consulting company has scheduled several public events to listen to feedback.

There’s a meeting tonight at 6 … t Malibu City Hall.

And the survey takers will be at the friday night concert at Trancas Country Market … tomorrow night at 6.

The city is also taking opinions via emails or on the cities website.

The ultimate priority list will be up to the city council… and it appears that the ultimate decision will be made after the November election . When three city council seats are up for votes.

MRCA Appeal On Lechusa Beach Bathroom Goes To Coastal Commission

Will the MRCA get to build a standalone bathroom … amidst multimillion dollars beachfront houses on Lechusa Beach???
That issue will go before the California Coastal Commission on September 13th.

The Malibu planning commission shut down plans for the bathroom at the top of the staircase… That the MRCA wants to improve as part of a package to increase public access to La Chusa Beach.

The Malibu planning commission feels that the bathroom would be ugly.

But the mountains resource and conservation Authority finds at the bathroom is essential… And once it put back in to the plans.

And it looks like yet another Malibu planning commission decision will get shot down… When it goes before the commission on September 13th.

Malibu Canyon Doc Clinic Reopens Despite Ketamine Death

An urgent care clinic operated by a doctor in a prescription ketamine scandal has reopened …

But its chief doctor has to warn his patients that he faces charges in connection with the death of actor Matthew Perry.

Doctor Salvador Plascencia is also no longer allowed to prescribe patients controlled substances like ketamine.

That;’s the drug that prosecutors say he supplied to Matthew Perry … the addicted “Friends” actor … before Perry’s fatal overdose.

The urgent care center is the Malibu Canyon Urgent Care Clinic in Calabasas … and it bears repeating that this business is not affiliated with the Malibu Urgent Care Center in Malibu.

Dr. Salvador Plasencia is one of five people arrested after an investigation into Perry’s illicit use of the anesthetic ketamine.

Perry overdosed on ketamine last October 2023.

Plasencia pleaded not guilty to several drug related charges last week … when he was  released on $100,000 bond, with his trial scheduled for Oct. 15.

According to his lawyer, Plasencia is still allowed to distribute non-controlled drugs, like antibiotics.

But his patients will have to sign a waiver giving written approval that they still want to be treated by Plasencia amid the ongoing criminal case.

Plasencia is the sole doctor listed on the website of Malibu Canyon Urgent Care, located in a strip mall  on Las Virgenes Road near the 101 Freeway.

Again … that business is not affiliated in any way with Malibu Urgent Care … on PCH.

Michael Madsen’s Lawyer Says He Did Not Batter His Wife

Michael Madsen is speaking out after his arrest on charges of domestic battery at his house on Broad Beach Road. The actor was arrested last week after police responded to a “family disturbance” report involving his wife.

The actor’s lawyer … Perry Wander …  says his wife “broke into” Madsen’s Malibu home.

“He confronted her and asked her to leave,” Wander says, noting it “has been an ongoing problem.”

Madsen’s lawyer says he has “shown immense compassion and restraint during this period towards his estranged wife” and is “definitely not guilty of domestic violence.

Madsen was freed on a $500 misdemeanor citation.

No charges have been filed by there D A’s office yet.

Skeeters Popping Up Near Malibu

Mosquitoes that bite during the day are appearing in increasing numbers in Ventura County… and to a lesser extent … in LA County.

These are Aedes aegypti mosquitoes … and they bite aggressively during the day. They have the potential to carry diseases like Zika, dengue, chikungunya and yellow fever.

Last year … htwo mosquito-transmitted cases of dengue were found, one in Pasadena and one in Long Beach.

Earlier this year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released an alert about increased risks of dengue transmission.

Aedes aegypti are small and black, carrying white stripes on their backs and legs.

They were first found in Ventura County in 2020.

Hurricane Hilary … the hurricane turned tropical storm that hit us last summer … caused an expel, osion in mosquito numbers.

They thrive in heat.

Their eggs can develop in minuscule amounts of water.

A teaspoon is enough for them to go from eggs to adults.

The mosquitos can also carry Wedts Nile virus …

Across California, 13 human cases of the virus have been reported so far this year, including two fatalities.

That story is based on a report in the Ventura County Star.

Concrete Walls Going Up On Wildlife Crossing North of Malibu

Tall, concrete walls going up on the wildlife crossing over the 101 Freeway near Agoura Hills.
the walls will eventually will help block the glare from headlights and roar of traffic.

Wildlife officials say the walls will trick wild animals into thinking they are in a natural area … not a bridge over 10 lanes of traffic over the 10 lane freeway carrying 300 thousand vehicles per day.

The first phase of the wildlife bridge costs $23 million.

But the total project … filling in the canon  contract to complete the first phase of construction, which includes the bridge over the freeway.

More than $100 million has been raised in a mix of public funds, private grants and donations have been raised to pay for costs.

The state is still finishing plans for the second phase of construction, which includes extending the crossing over Agoura Road.

Caltrans expects to seek bids for that work later this year, Comeaux said.

Former Malibu Man Dropping Out Of Questionable Presidential Quest

Finally this morning … it looks like one fewer Malibu ex-resident is running for president.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s odd, doomed bid for the presidency is nearing its end.

The candidate has reportedly reached out to both presidential candidates … offering to drop his campaign in exchange for some sort of federal job.

Donald Trump has taken the bait.

Kennedy had lived on Point Dume for years … although he maintains he actually was living in a bedroom he had rented in New York State … at a house where no one had ever seen him.
