The California Highway Patrol was out in force on Pacific Coast Highway Saturday and Sunday.
So was the sheriff’s office … as the Operation Safe Canyons task force moved out of the mountains and down to the beach.
Quite unusual to see so many C H P units on P C H.
We counted eight C H P cruisers and motorcycles working enforcement along Zuma Beach and to the west.
County sheriffs deputies worked east of there.
Racing motorcycles … muscle cars … and loud cheap imports have been turning P C H into their personal playgrounds on recent weekend days.
No word yet on how many citations were issued … or cars of motorcycles towed.
But it was noticeably quieter on P C H last weekend.

If the definition of insanity is doing the same stupid thing over and over again … the city of Santa Monica and Caltrans wins the insane award this week.
For at least the second time in a year … a car has struck a fire hydrant right where the 10 freeway traffic goes through the tunnel onto PCH.
The busted hydrant has sprayed water onto the mud cliffs that hold up Palisades park above the PCH.
Mud has flowed down onto P C H … closing the westboudn 10 at Fourth Street.
Just exactly why that fire hydrant has to be on the inland side of P C H … instead of across the street … is not exactly clear.
But Santa Monica water crews are at the hydrant … apparently reinstalling it … thsi morning.
As Caltrans is scooping out the mud.
School buses heading towards malibu were delayed this morning.
Traffic jammed in downtown Santa Monica …. and both the California Incline and 7th Street into Santa Monica Canyon are open but jammed.
26th Street up to Sunset was the best bet.
The freeway into the tunnel was reopened at 8:30.
There were at lest three injury crashes on the freeway during the traffic jam … as cars wiped out where traffic suddenly stopped.
