‘Temporary’ SC Edison Truck Lot May Not Be So Temporary

Southern California Edison said it was an emergency … when it built a truck parking lot and equipment staging facility in the center of Malibu.
Grass on a large vacant lot on Civic Center Way was paved over with gravel … and fenced … under an emergency permit granted by the City of Malibu.
Some people in Malibu were very upset … with the sudden intrusion of an industrial storage yard in the heart of the city.
Southern California Edison promised … last February 25th … that thus was temporary ….
That the gravel would be removed in 120 days.
Edison company biologist … 155 days ago … told the city council that the meadow-like field will be restored when the trucks are done … in three or four months.
Genevieve Cross:
GENEVIEVE CROSS QQQ GRASS THAT IS OUT THERE.
“An agreement we have with a property owner, (is) we are going to return the site to existing conditions.
“We did work with the city biologist to identify a seed mix of native seeds, so when the site is done we are going to return it to existing conditions.
“And actually better than existing, because we are going to use better seed than (the existing) non-native grass that is out there.”
That was 155 days ago.
Now comes word … late last week … that the temporary Edison truck staging depot may not be so temporary after all.
The city planning commission is now being asked to okay the the permanent retention of the gravel, gates, and fencing at the lot.
Also … to approve what the city calls the continued temporary use of the truck depot and equipment storage lot.
Details are not released by the city … or by the Edison company.
The matter goes before the Planning Commission next week.
