Stanley the Giraffe is now property of the state of California.
State wildlife officials have seized Stanley from his longtime owners … the Semmler family … at their vineyard and tourist attraction on Mulholland Highway.
The owners are charged with misdemeanors … and Stanely remains in his paddock …
Turns out … the state doesn’t have a place to tranport their new property to.
The Woolsey Fire focused animal rights activists on Stanely … as social media erupted when people learned that Stanley and most other animals on the ranch were not evacuated.
His owners say Stanley was sheltered in place … moved into an area with no fuel around it.
But the uproar focused renewed scrutiny of the ranch and may have pressured county and state animal control officers to finally crack down on the lack of permits.
But the misdemanor animal permit issue may be the elast oif thre problems upo there.
ABC-7 has done a major investigative report on the Malibu Wine Safar busines … not just the misdemeanor possession of a wild animal without permits matter.
The Safari business is accused by numerous customers of taking their money for wine tours … which included meeting Stanley and a ride around the mountaintop vineyard and ranch.
Lots of money … hundrfeds of dollars per ticket.
Customers told ABC 7 that the Safari knew they were closed, yet they’re still allowing people to book tickets and, you know, reserve and take their money.”
The Better Business Bureau has 41 complaints about Malibu Wine Safaris selling pricey tickets … but cancelling the tours without refunds.
A BBB spokesperson told Channel 7 that Malibu Wine Safaris has not responded to the complaints.
And Channel 7 reports it got no comments from the Semmler family.
Stanley is in legal limbo for now. Because he’s been “seized in place” by the Department of Fish and Wildlife, he remains at their ranch for now.
