SMMUSD May Eliminate Residency Requirement

The Santa Monica Malibu school board wants to get kids who do not have homes … to have easier residency requirements for enrollment.
The School Board on Thursday will consider a plan to allow any homeless child … or any foster child in contact with the juvenile justice system … to immediately enroll in a local school even if there is no proof of residency.
Like all California public school districts, the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District has extensive rules on establishing residency for students.
Those rules would be waived for homeless kids.
The meeting is t 5:30 Thursday here in Malibu.
As we’ve reported earlier …the big story will be the proposed school realignment … possibly moving Juan Cabrillo kids down to Point Dume School. … and the various plans on what to do with older buildings at Malibu High School.
