It’s only a concept right now … a trial balloon.
But school district officials are considering closing Juan Cabrillo Elementary School …
Malibu High principal Chelli Nye.

“There are some ideas being floated out, on combining two of our elementary schools — Point Dume and Juan Cabrillo — at the Point Dume site.”
Malibu Middle School and High School High students would shift over to the Juan Cabrillo campus … as the entire remaining part of the old high school is bladed flat and a new campus built.
The new buildings would allow a separate middle school and high school.
Chelli Nye says tall this would be contingent on Malibu voters approving the construction at th eb ballot box.
CHELLI DDD:13 QQQ: OF HAVING THEIR OWN IDENTITY.
“A lot of this will depend on whether or not we can get funding for a bond … and having a separate campus could mean a lot of great things for our middle school kids of having their own identity.”
But it would mean an end for Juan Cabrillo Elementary School after 60 years in western Malibu. Nye says declining student populations mean the populations
of both elementary schools are too small.
And the current high school layout is by any measure … a mess.
CHELLI EEEE :15 QQQ: THE GROUND UP.
“We have a school that was originally a middle school and then was added on to, and added on to, and is hodge-podged together, I guess is tyh e best way to say it.”
“We might be able to really design a 21st century high school, (from the) ground up.”
Malibu High principal Chelli Nye.
Again … it’s just a concept … closing Juan Cabrillo Elementary … moving Malibu Middle School onto its grounds … and then completely rebuilding Malibu High.
