Showdown At Point Dume – Deputies Convince Surfers To Scatter
Written by 991KBU on April 9, 2020
The waves were up yesterday … and many surfers disobeyed the public health laws to paddle out.
Surfers were ordered to disperse yesterday afternoon at Point Dume.
Deputies were described as easy going … and they kept their ticket books in their holsters … as they walked down a private pathway to the beach.
Surfers at Little Dume reportedly scattered.
Same story at Surfrider Beach yesterday.
Two sheriff’s boats and several deputies on the shore … again scattering the crowd.
Some residents called the deputies’ actions overkill … police state … Nazi-like.
Others in Malibu took to social media to say the surfers have to risk public health by being in the water.
Said one … “Selfish entitled jerks. Get over your yourselves.”
Although beaches in Malibu …. Santa Monica and all of Los Angeles County are closed … some beaches remain open up the coast.
The beaches between Oxnard and Ventura have remained open for surfing and other ocean activities.
Also … apparently … the County Line beach has -not- been closed.
The beaches in the City of Ventura have been closed … and the beaches at Point Mugu State Park … also closed.
But for Easter weekend … some of those beaches in Oxnard will be closed … until Monday.
