Sheriff To Oust ICE From County Jails

The new Los Angeles County sheriff is going to remove federal immigration agents from the county’s jails.
Sheriff Alex Villanueva serves as the city of Malibu’s police chief.
He told the Board of Supervisors this week that he plans follow through on hsi campaign promise.
ICE agents … working for Immigrations and Customs Enforcement … will not have access to to the jails.
In addition … Villanueva says he plans to further limit the types of crimes that lead jail authorities to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Quote … “We are going to physically remove ICE from the county jails” unquote … according to the Associated Press.
Villanueva won an upset victory over Jim McDonnell in last month’s election
And during his campaign, the retired sheriff’s lieutenant said he would remove immigration agents from the jails.
As head of the nation’s largest sheriff’s office … Villanueva is effectively the police chief of Malibu.
Malibu is one of about 50 cities in Los angeles County that hire the sheriff’s office to be the town police department.
His policy is in alignment with the official policy of the Coity of Malibu.
The last city council enacted a resiltuon declaring Malibu to be a sanctuary city.
