Santa Monica Says It Missed Self-Imposed Deadline Because They Were Busy Doing Due Diligence

The Santa Monica school board last night put out a 183 word statement explaining why it missed a its own self-imposed deadline … to finalize the Malibu school divorce.
This excuse note can be summarized as “my dog ate my homework.”
The issue … of course .. is the proposed Malibu School District.
Earlier this month … the Malibu city council said it had done enough waiting … and moved to bypass trying to get any support from Santa Monica.
The city council last week voted to take the Malibu Independent School District request directly to the L A County Office of Education.
Malibu officials had had it with repeated delays and missed deadlines in Santa Monica.
We reported that last week. It took Santa Monica a half week to reply … and they said they need to be vary very careful.
SMMUSD DELAY
This means we must allow for ample time in order to hear the concerns and incorporate valid suggestions from our 1,500 employees who provide education and services for our students, address the comments of 8,500 students and their families, including historically marginalized subgroups and students with special needs, and provide in-depth details of the legal and practical ramifications to both communities of this historic process. “
The SMMUSD statement kept going. .. and going.
“SMMUSD will not place artificial obstacles or random dates as deterrents in finalizing these agreements in a rigorous manner.”
The Santa Monica statement as voiced by a KBUU reporters.
So .. the battle lines are drawn.
In two weeks … the County Office of Education will start holding public hearings on the Malibu school district split.
The first public hearing in a Friday evening at 6 in downtown Santa Monica.
That’s Friday the Sixth of November … at 6 p-m.
The second public hearing will be at Malibu High School … at 6 p-m on Wednesday … November 16th.
A vote is possible that night.
