Santa Anas Will Lower Into Malibu This PM

Written by on November 8, 2018

An odd Santa Ana has hit Southern California.

It’s blowing like heck at higher elevations … but a strong marine layer is keeping it cool and relatively windless in Malibu this afternoon.

Winds have been clocked about 40 mph in the mountains at the Western and of the Santa Monica Range.

But they have not hit us at the beach yet… as of 2:30.

That’s going to fall apart … and strong Santa Ana winds will hit Malibu by about sunset.

Southern California Edison keeps adding circuits across the area that might be shut off due to fears of high winds and powerline fires.

No circuits in Malibu have been added since early this morning.

That’s when Southern California Edison said that it may turn off the power in the mountains above Malibu tonight  … as an intensifying Santa Ana windstorm is developing to arrive tonight.

Customers living in the Encinal Canyon Hills … and the hills above Paradise Cove … were informed that their circuits maybe killed at some point tonight.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for Malibu … effective at noon today … for winds of 15 to 25 mph … with gusts to 35 mph.

After sunset … the winds will increase to 20 and 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph.

Mountaintops may see winds up to 70 mph.

There will be an overall break in the winds Saturday and Saturday night, however, another Santa Ana is expected to develop Sunday through Monday.

The weekend Santa Anas will not be as strong as the first.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory and Red Flag Warnings for Malibu … effective at noon today … for winds of 15 to 25 mph … with gusts to 35 mph.

After sunset … the winds will increase to 20 and 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph.

Mountaintops may see winds up to 70 mph.
