Cal Fire has released a report into the near-death of a firefighter …. in the mountains west of Malibu … when a resident drove over him.

A fire strike team  made up of five fire trucks from Washington state was assigned to work in the mountains of eastern Ventura County.

It was on Day Six of the fire … in the nighttime.

After round the clock work … the five fire trucks were given a rest period and had pulled off in a grassy area north of Pacific View Drive near Houston Road … in the moutains above Yerba Buena Canyon.

The calfire report says most of the firefighters slept on top of their fire engine … but one took a nap on a grassy patch of land 15 feet away from the truck.

The Calfire report blames the civilian driving the truck.

AT midnight … a resident in the mandatory evacuation area drove int ot he area of sleeping firefighters and turned the headlights off … to avoid waking them.

The front and rear tires drove over the sleeping fire lieutenant’s chest,.

The 2015 Dodge Ram 2500 is a pickup truck weighing more than 7,000 pounds.

Teh crew feared the worst.

But the firefighter was lying in soft dirt.

He was flown by helicopter to a trauma center.

he only had minor injuries … and was released a day and a half later.
