Rebuilds Still Slow In Building Permit Department

People seeking to rebuild the fire-destroyed houses are discovering that they have two major hurdles to clear at City Hall.
The first one … no problem.
The second … problem.
First … they have to get the Planning Department to okay the conceptual blueprints.
That’s generally not a problem.
Planning Commission Jeff Jennings is complaining that its the second hurdle that is a problem … as people like him try to rebuild.

“For people who are simply wanting to do a like for like exchange, it’s very simple.
“The planning requirements are very simple.
“You just have to come in with the required documents.
“But when you page down and go through public works, you’d better have you’re planning but when you page through and get down to public works, you’d better have your grading plan and your storm water pollution prevention plan and all the rest of the stuff put together.”
Jennings says that the plan check process is not yielding any slack to people wanting to rebuild … causing delays in the rebuilding process.
