Questions Linger After Drifter Charged With Murder

The filing of murder and attempted murder charges filed against Anthony Rauda apparently mark the end of the LA Sheriff’s probe into the way his office handled the series of shootings.
But there are huge lingering questions about the way the case was handled … questions that were raised by Alex Villanueva himself when he was running for sheriff.
And now … he won a squeaker of an election.
And he tells the L A Times that those questions have been handled … internally.
A you recall .. the way the case was disclosed to the public became what the L A Times calls a political football.
It appears that the five various police agencies that patrol Malibu Canyon did not piece together than a serial sniper was at work.
Or if they did piece it together … they did not publicly announce the danger.
Sharp criticism over that point was raised against the incumbent sheriff … Jim McDonell … who was running for re-election.
As the LA Times reports … challenger Alex Villanueva questioned why the Sheriff’s Department had not publicized the potentially related shootings earlier.
Villanueva won that election … in a squeaker.
And as the L A Times further reports … the new sheriff says the issue has been handled … and has been handled internally.
And Villanueva praised his team.. and he praised the investigators who captured Rauda.
Villanueva told the L A Tomes … this case “represented a challenge in many regards: the sheer logistics of it, the fact that there was a time period of almost two years that we had to backtrack and figure out what his activities were.”
Villanueva said “It took a lot of hard work and good old-fashioned police work to make it happen.”
Apparently …the review of how the Malibu Canyon shootings were handled is over … quietly and behind closed doors.

Anthony Rauda is charged with the murder of a man camping in a tent with his two little girls next to him.
Tristan Beaudette … a 35 year old father from Irvine … had taken the little girls to the canyon park to allow his wife study for her medical doctor boards.
Yesterday .. the district attorney and the sheriff announced that Rauda was the man who fire the trigger.
Rauda was charged with murder … and 10 counts of attempted murder for shooting at hikers and motorists in the canyon.
