Proposed PCH Tow Patrol: No Service On Weekends? Really?

Written by on May 11, 2018

Also on the council agenda … and we told you a little about this earlier this week …

For 24 thousand dollars a year … Malibu can get Freeway Service Patrol trucks stationed pn Pacific Coast Highway.

Everyone in Malibu has experienced big crashes that have blocked off the PCH between Santa Monica and Malibu.

After one big crash in August of 2016 … the road was closed … all the tow trucks were stuck in traffic … Malibu was stuck..

So KBUU radio asked elected officials ….why are there no Metro Freeway Service Patrol tow trucks … stationed on PCH in Malibu?

Freeway Service Patrol trucks are on every freeway in LA County.

P C H is the biggest state highway in Southern California without Freway Service Patrol trucks.

They can untangle wrecks … let traffic through … until other tow trucks can drive in to haul off the damage.

County supervisor Sheila Kuehl told KBUU News she would ask Metro to study bringing Freeway Service Patrol trucks to Malibu.

And now … Metro will pick up the cost of 120 thousand dollars a year for Metrop Freeway Service Patrol trucks on P C H.

But only 7 hours a day.

And only on weekdays.

Weekends are when the need is greater … and 7 hours a day is not enough.

Weekend service would cost more.

The matter goes before the city council next week.

Also on the agenda … final approval expected for the city’s dark skies ordinance.
