Proposals To End Out-Of-District Kids, Lay Off Teachers Goes To SMMUSD Board Tonight

Dozens of parents are expected to troop down to Santa Monica for tonight’s school board meeting … to object to plans by the district to phase out enrollment in Malibu schools for kids from over the hills.
The district faces an 11 point 5 million dollar budget shortfall … it will vote on sending pit teacher layoff notices tonight.
Malibu parents object to cutting costs by removing outside enrollment in Malibu’s four public schools.
They say that Malibu schools are experiencing an enrollment crisis … which does not exist in Santa Monica. schools that exists nowhere else in district.
Also up for discussion … possible teacher layoffs.
Parents here are pointing to audits that show the Santa Monica Malibu school district is way top heavy with administrators and consultants.
The meeting is tonight at 6 at the district headquarters, at 16th Street and Olympic Boulevard in Santa Monica.
