In news from down the coast … a Santa Monica real estate agent has pleaded “no contest” to five misdemeanor counts in a vacation rental scam.
The Santa Monica Lookout newspaper reports that the man unlawfully removed nine units from the city’s rental housing market and converted them into B and B listings
Shabi Jafri will perform 140 hours of community service … pay the City $3,600.25 in investigation costs … and will be on unsupervised probation for two years.
The Lookout newspaper reports that the man converted apartments into a vacation business without the necessary permits and violated Santa Monica’s homesharing law … which requires that both the host and paying guest occupy the registered unit.
In this case … it may not have been the crime … but the coverup that got jari into trouble with Santa Moncia.
The city attorney there says the city has a firm intention to enforce its B and B ordinance.
