Plan To Shuttle Cars Across PCH Comes Up Aug 20

The proposal by the Malibu Beach Inn to move its parking lot across P C H continues to move through City Hall.
It will go before the Planning Commission August 20th.
The beachfront hotel wants to put its parking on the inland side of P C H … and down the street a few hundred feet.
That would make room for a swimming pool at the hotel …
The hotel owners have already got Caltrans permission to install a traffic light … just east of the Malibu Pier … to accommodate the valet workers who would be running back and forth P C H all day.
On yeah … beach visitors too.
Now … the Malibu Beach Inn owners are asking the city for permission to install parking lifts at the car lot across the street … where the Hertz rent a car lot used to be.
The parking lifts would raise cars up in the air so other cars could park beneath them .
That would let the hotel park its cars across P C H … to allow the business to straddle a highway that carries 40 thousand cars per day … lots more than that on summer days.
The latest application was scheduled to go to the Planning Commission next week … it has been postponed to August 20th.
This comes as the Nobu and Soho House continue to operate a similar cross-the-highway parking scheme … just down the road.
Those two highly-successful operations are supposed to … under city regulations … park their cars on their own lot.
But valets and vehicles are zipping back and forth across PCH … storing patrons cars on a vacant lot and parking garage on the inland side of the highway.
