One More Coronavirus Death In Malibu, Toll Now 7, as Scarier California Mutation Emerges

Written by on February 25, 2021

A seventh coronavirus death has been reported in Malibu.

The county does not release any identification … federal privacy laws preserve that dignity.

But the seventh Covid victim turned up in the daily numbers report this morning.

Our death rate in Malibu is only 54 deaths per 100 thousand population.

By comparision …. the death rate in Lynwood … near LAX … is 294 people per 100 thousand.

That’s six times greater.

Six new Coronavirus cases have been diagnosed amongst Malibu residents in the past two weeks.

There is a coronoavirus variant in California … and new research strongly suggests that the coronavirus strain spreads more readily than its predecessors and also has the ability to evade antibodies generated by COVID-19 vaccines.

Prior infection dopes not shield a person from it.

And the mutation is associated with more severe illness and death.

Samples suggest the variant is 19% to 24% more transmissible.

The Los Angeles Times quotes scientists … who say the homegrown variant could reverse the state’s recent progress in reducing new infections.

If people stop wearing masks … if people start clustering in public … if vaccines do not arrive immediately … we may be in bigger trouble than ever.

This comes as Californians … tired of 49 weeks of shutdown … clamor to reopen,.

Los Angeles County on Wednesday reported another 806 deaths from coronavirus.

California’s death toll is now more than 50,000.

The U-S death toll … 500 thousand plus.

Teachers in Los Angeles County can begin receiving the coronavirus vaccine next Monday … if they can get an appointment.

Just how many doses will be available for educators will depend on supply … it is still just an estimate.

California will get about 200,000 vaccine doses next week.

25% to 29% will go toward teachers and administrators … and of that … 9% will go to private school teachers and staff.

After the teachers … the remainder wil be divided among childcare providers, food and agricultural workers and emergency service personnel.
