One Found Dead After Malibu Canyon Crash, Hours After 75 Acre “Rockpool” Brusher

One person is dead … following a car crash and small brush fire in Malibu Canyon last night.
It was the second fire of the day in Malibu Canyon.
The fatality and small fire were discovered a few minutes before 9 … just across from the Hughes Research Lab near the Malibu city limit.
It is not confirmed when the crash happened.
No name for the victim has been released yet … either.
All this happened at the south end of the canyon … while at the north end … firefighters were mopping up that 75-acre brushfire in Malibu Creek State Park.
Mulholland Highway remains closed this morning between Malibou Lake and Las Virgenes Road … but Malibu Canyon Road is open.
County fire crews have been on Mulholland all night … mopping up the Sunday afternoon brushfire that broke out in the crowded Rock Pool area of Malibu Creek State Park.
The fast spreading fire started at 1:27 .. and within a few minutes it had burned thru a thicket of trees at the popular swimming hole.
A slight wind from the south blew it uphill … towards Mulholland west of Las Virgenes Road.
Fixed wing aircraft dropped phos-check.
Helicopters dropped water.
Line crews dug fire lines … more than 120 firefighters were assigned to this one .
It was stopped at Mulholland.
But as we say … mop up continues today.
Traffic was jammed all day … as heavy beach traffic was backed up on PCH at the Kanan-Dume signal until after 9.
The good news is that the jammed roads apparently foiled plans of various car clubs for more traffic-blocking stunts .. as near as we can tell.
