The Malibu City Council will consider an emergency rent control and ban on evictions Monday night.

If approved by a four member majority … the eviction ban and rent control ordnance would take effect immediately.

Governor Gavin Newsom has given municipalities like Malibu Authority to enact such a sweeping powers over landlords.

The Malibu ordinance would cover both residential and commercial properties.

Also on the agenda Monday night…. Newscast

Rat control without poisons … and fireproof landscaping.

Two very important issues in Malibu go before the Malibu city Council Monday night.

An ordinance that would require businesses to lock their dump bins … and lock them tight … goes up for final approval.

Malibu businesses have generally failed miserably to voluntarily keep their garbage bins snapped shut.

This leads to a proliferation of rats … and the need to use poisons for public health purposes.

The poison works its way up the food stream the coyotes cougars and even house cats.

Businesses say their commercial garbage collection bills Will skyrocket.

Poison free Malibu has been championing a crackdown on disgusting and messy garbage bins for years.

The city Council has already approved an early version of the proposed ordinance … it goes up for ratification Monday night.

Same story for an ordinance that would restrict landscaping … sheds and fences near Malibu houses.

The Woolsey fire was nearly a year and a half ago … and the city council is only now in acting an ordinance to prohibit dangerous landscaping and housekeeping practices.

Spending $269,000 to build a temporary skateboard park at Malibu Bluffs Park is also on the agenda.

There’s been a huge head of steam to build this park by the summer … fulfilling promises made over 25 years by various city councils.

That was before the COVID-19 pandemic turned life upside down.

Malibu Bluffs Park … like all recreation facilities … is closed … and may stay closed for months.

Dr. Anthony Fauci says social distancing maybe necessary through November.

Maybe longer.

The cities promised to build a skate park by this summer may run head-on into the fact that building and attractive new skateboard park that would have to stay off limits may not be such good idea.

The bids are in.

They could be put on hold.

We’ll see what the city council does Monday night.
