‘Nice Kitty. Did You Eat My Peacocks?”

The Skydog Ranch operates a critter rehab center in Malibu … as well as sister facilities in Central California and in Oregon.
Owner Clare Staples posted video on her Facebook page yesterday … of her early morning walk out to the pen where she kept two peacocks.
Peacock feathers here and there … and in a tree … inside the pen … a juvenile mountain lion with an engorged belly …. and frankly … a satisifed disposition.
Staples had her tape rolling as she walked up to the edge of the pen … chickenwire and six feet separating her and the apparently content cat.

“Why are you in there?”
“Hello.
“Hi kitty.
“Hi kitty.
“Did you eat my peacocks?”
The mountain lion sat there … it’s belly quite full … perched in a tress inside the peacock pen.
Next door … a big emu was milling about.
The consversation continued.

“You ate my peacocks didn’t you?
“Oh my goodnews, why would you do that?
“There are so many ground squirrels.
“Why didn’t you eat the ground squirrels?
“They make so many holes everywhere.”
Clare Staples and a crow … recorded on her ranch above Malibu.
The young cougar was not wearing a radio tag.
It wandered off while Staples was on the phone with Fish and Wildlife.
The cougar breakfast was at Sky Dog Ranch … which we believe is up in the mountains above County line beach.
