News Blackout On Malibu Cyn Murder Frustrates Residents

Frustrations of Malibu Canyon residents into the total news blackout on the recent murder of a camper have made news again in Los Angeles.
Tristan Beaudette was murdered in his tent about 2-1/2 weeks ago.
Since that time … there has been a total news blackout from the L A County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau.
And … California State Parks is saying nothing … they provide overlapping law enforcement in the canyon.
The Los Angeles Daily News reports that they have made numerous phone calls to both the sheriff’s office and California State parks … both of which refuse to answer questions.
Like …. which agency is in charge of which area in the canyon … when shooting reports get called in.
Questions about what the response was … to the string of shootings that began two years ago … and then mysteriously stopped a year later …
Those questions … still not answered.
Maybe there are no answers.
Sources within the local sheriff’s office tell KBUU News they would like to answer questions … but the murder case is being handled by the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau … from downtown.
And the homicide detectives are far more concerned with solving the murder … than community relations.
But questions do remain … over the overlapping duties of five law enforcement agencies in Malibu Canyon.
Park ranger police from three separate agencies … the M R C A … California State parks and National Park Service … plus the C H P … plus the L A county sheriff … all over overlapping patrol jurisdiction in our local mountains.
Do these officers coordinate activity and patrols?
Do they have radios to talk to each other?
If park rangers get a report of a shooting … is the L A County sheriff brought in?
Questions … still unanswered.
We do know this.
The campground remains closed.
Detectives have gone back to the campground numerous times … combing for evidence.
And law enforcement is stuck … when crimes like this occur … and they can’t talk because they are more concerned with catching the murderer … than letting all of us know exactly what is happening.
