Natonal Park Service Closes ‘Facilities’ In Local Mountains – Most Trails Still Open – LA Mayor Targets Open Businesses

Yesterday … the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area closed its parking lots.
But with the exception of Solstice Canyon, the park remains open to day-use walkers, hikers and bicyclists.
All Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area parking areas were locked yesterday.
Solstice Canyon in Malibu was closed last Sunday … after it was overcrowded with hikers on Saturday.
The M R C A has already closed its trails … but the National Park Service has not gone that far.
County beaches are all closed … but state beaches west of Malibu apparently remain open.
And parking along Pacific Coast Highway has not been restricted … allowing beach access to persons violating the closure orders.

Mayor Eric Garcetti warned Los Angeles on Tuesday that the worst of the coronavirus pandemic is still to come and that residents should be prepared for more loss of life.
Garcetti said L.A. could be six to 12 days from seeing similar numbers to the outbreak in New York City, where the death toll has dramatically increased in recent days.
In his 5:15pm nightly address … carried by KBUU … the LA Mayor said additional recreation areas on the westside are being shut down.

But some businesses in Los Angeles are continuing operations … non-essential businesses that are supposed to be closed under state orders.
L A Mayor Eric Garcetti is asking residents to call in reports of violations … and he says offending businesses will be given chances to voluntarily comply.
If not … L-A city workers will disconnect their water and power.
