MRCA Plans To Buy Kanan Road Land To Use As Campground Parking

The M R C A plans to buy a big chunk of vacant land along Kanan Dume Road.
No specific plans have been announced … but it appears this land will be used for parking for the hike-in campsites down in Ramirez Canyon.
Three vacant lots … perched on the side of the hill just north of the Malibu city limits … are under option to the Mountain Recreation and Conservation Authority … the MRCA.
The land is three residential lots … called the Lauber Smith property … it has a paved access road coming off Kanan Dume just north of Via Acero.
The state Coastal Conservancy is going to vote tomorrow in Santa Criz … to consider a one million dollar grant to the M R C A to help buy the 24 q=acre site.
The M R CA says this would create an important link in the Coastal Slope Trail to connect Kanan-Dume Road to Ramirez Canyon Park.
And the M R CA says this would provide the only lower cost coastal accommodations on the Malibu coast.
Apparently … the M R C A has never been to Sycamore Canyon … Thornhill Broome beach … or Leo Carrillo beach.
