Moving Cabrillo Kids To Point Dume To Be Explained

School officials met with parents at Juan Cabrillo Elementary School last night … to explain their thinking about ending elementary school instruction in Malibu Park … and shifting it to the Point Dume school campus.
A similar meeting is tomorrow night … for the parents at Point Dume.

Neighbors to the Point Dume school will get a presentation about the plan … Thursday night.
And we are already hearing some noises from the point about the increased traffic that this would bring to the neighborhood …
School board member Craig Foster tells KBUU News that this second meeting … Thursday night … will explain the concept to the neighbors on Point Dume … and to listen.

Although the student population at Point Dume has dropped to 190 … the number of parents driving to the school would about double …

“Point Dume at its peak had about 300 students … and this is going to have about 380 students there …. so it is going to be a bit more traffic than peak.
Foster says the school district will have to come up with innovative plans … like using electrically-powered minibuses to transport students to and from the Point Dume school.
All this is happening very fast … the meetings this week will be followed by a decision by the Santa Monica-Malibu school board next week.
