More Western Malibu Roads Reopen On Day 33

Written by on December 12, 2018

33 days after the fire … some residents were allowed in to their destroyed homes … or their surviving homes … in western Malibu for the first time yesterday.

Caltrans and county road crews … plus utility company trucks … have been clogging the twisty and narrow mountain roads.

This is in the Encinal and Decker canyon areas … for the 3 weeks since the fire was declared out.

Residents had grown increasingly frustrated with the fact that the state highway … Decker Canyon Road … was still closed while numerous county roads just to the west in Ventura county had been reopened.

And the closing of Encinal Canyon Road had blocked off the significant section of the Santa Monica Mountains from access.

At 11:45 yesterday, the following roads were reopened to residents with identification:
Encinal Canyon Road – from the Malibu city limits north to Lechusa Road.
Decker Canyon Road – PCH to Lechusa except one section at Decker School
Foose Road – off Decker Canyon Rd.

Again, those roads are open only to residents with proof of identification.

Still closed are Mulholland Highway up the hill from PCH … to just south of Sycamore Canyon Road .

And also … the 2 mile segment of Mulholland Highway between Westlake Boulevard and the Encinal Canyon split.
