More Bitter Politics Last Night, As Silverstein Attacks Council Colleagues And Then Complains About Being Isolated
Written by 991KBU on February 25, 2021
More bitter politics at Malibu City Hall last night.
Councilman Bruce Silverstein again demanded that city manager Reva Feldman be given 10 days to clean out her desk.
Earlier .. the city council had its fourth secret session to review Feldman’s job performance and continued employment.
No action.
Only six Malibu residents rose to speak on the Zoom session … about a third as many as usual.
Here’s a sample.
NEWSCART 73283 VOXPOP AND ITS DANGEROUS
Marissa Coughlin:
“I find it exrtemely disturbing the inquisition … and the content that is going on.”
Howard Rudzki:
“I just wanted to give my thanks to Reva and everybody that made the new ordinance on highway (parking) possible.
“It just goes to show that the city is working.
“It’s getting things done and I think all of us are happy about that.”
Dana Graulich:
“There is still quite a bit of media chatter that is dividing and hurting our community.
And we need to independently evaluate it … so that we can either address the problems if it is there or close down the innuendo and conspiracy theories for good.
Doug Stewart:
“These constant accusations of corruption without any evidence.
“These constant personal attacks on anyone who disagrees with him … meaning Councilman Silverstein …
“It’s unprecedented in the history of Malibu and it is dangerous.”
Marissa Couglin … Howard Rudzki … Dana Graulich … Doug Stewart … the last person quoting a Malibu Times editorial.
Not one person spoke in favor of Bruce Silverstein.
None of this fazed Silverstein.
NEWSCART 73282 BS DO NOTHING BUT SPEW IT
“More than 24 hundred residents agreed with my assessment and my objectives.
“Yet since being elected … the majority of the city council hasve (sic) purposely disregarded and denigarted my legal experience that I bring to the table,
“Seemingly out of spite … fear … and an unhealthy dose of disdain by city council members who make no effort to hide it.
“And a number of residents who come here repeatedly complaining about vitriol … but do nothing but spew it.”
As Silverstein often points out … 24 hundred 14 residents voted for Silverstein …
He got the most votes cast of all seven of the candidates … by a few percentage points.
Silcverstein his claim of a mandate last night … 24 hundred 14 votes … can be viewed against the 61 hundred Malibu voters who voted in that election.
Silverstein again last night accused the other city council members of cutting him out of the decision making process.
Karen Ferrer responded by reading a letter from a resident.
NEWSCART 73281 KF MOST PEOPLE WOULD AGREE
” ‘It is wrong to use the council dias or social media platforms as a bully pulpit … and then claim victimization.’
“And then in another part of her e-mail … she said ‘these last few city council meetrings have been tedious neverneding and painful.’
And I think most eople would agree.”
Karen Farrer.
No persons appeared to speak in favor of Silverstein … and his unrelenting attacks on the city manager and the now-retired city attorney.
Silverstein his supporters are afraid of being made victims … of retaliation.
Silverstein’s fellow slate member … Steve Uhring … may be trying to step back from Silverstein’s method of attack.
There was this indirect criticism last night.
NEWSCART 73280 SU MAKE THE CITY BETTER
The speakers who come to the city council can sort of say whatever they want …
“But I hope that the city council members will not … in the city council meetings … spend their time dumping on each other.
“I just don’t think that makes us a better working group … or helps us become … helps us get together on making some decisions that will make the city better.”
As we said … there was no action last night to remove Feldman … who has offered to be boiught out of her contract.
She has also made a threat to sue for the harassment …. she alleges Silverstein has a vendetta against her and has made her life miserable.
