Malibu Resident Trying To Save Doctors’ Lives In China
Written by 991KBU on March 2, 2020
A Malibu resident is gathering emergency medical supplies to ship to China.
The potential public health threat posed by COVID-19 is high, both globally and to the United States.
Jamie Ottillie is putting together care packages of environmental suits and N-95 masks to send to China for use by medical personnel treating those affected by coronavirus.
Ottillie has asked the city government for help.
Malibu has purchased a substantial stockpile of N-95 masks … for use in fires …
These are the same N-95 masks that are desperately needed throughout China.
Vital medical protective equipment is in extremely high demand for doctors … nurses and health care workers.
He asked the City if it can spare a possible donation of N-95 particulate respirator masks.
The staff has determined that it could offer one case of N-95 masks without negatively impacting the City’s supply for a possible future disaster.
The 160 masks cost the city 88 dollars.
City Council member Rick Mullen is requesting the City Council authorize the donation.
It goes up for a vote next week.
