Malibu Playhouse Sold To Rocker – Future Uncertain
Written by 991KBU on June 11, 2018
There’s no word on what will happen to the Malibu Playhouse … after the tabloid journalists spread the press release that it has been sold to a rock and roll star.
Chris Martin … the frontman for Coldplay … has reportedly paid about 4 and a half million dollars for the Malibu Playhouse.
The Playhouse is 6 and a half acres of land … with a round 99-seat theater right in the middle … perched next to Zuma Canyon.
The theater was originally a church … it’s most recently been used by two youth actors groups.
The Young Actors Project staged a production of “Bonnie and Clyde” earlier this month.
The City of Malibu had been kicking the tires …. examining the possibility of buying it.
But the city council kept talk about that secret … and used the California open meeting law loophole on real estate negotiations to evade any public discussion on buying the theater.
With the demise of the Malibu Cinema … this was just about the last theater in Malibu.
We say just about … because the Malibu Jewish Center and Synagogue is still showing occasional movies.
As we say … there’s no word what rock and roll star Chris Martin will do with the Malibu Playhouse. … possibilities include recording studio … rezoning for houses … or a community theater.
