Metro To Shift $3.5 Million For Malibu Park and Ride Lot

Written by on July 24, 2018

How will the city of Malibu pay for that big land purchase … three vacant lots at the Civic Center and Point Dume?

29 acres of prime commercial land will be purchased … for 43 million dollars.

Next Thursday … the Metro board of directors in Los Angeles will approve the last step in the financing package.

Metro is being asked to shuffle 3 and a half million dollars in regional transportation money … and to reallocate it for park and ride lots in Malibu.

This … despite virtually no demand for park and ride lots in Malibu.

And the fact that there is no park and ride lot for Malibu commuters to use the 2 billion dollar light rail train … the Expo Line … in Santa Monica.

Malibu is shrewdly using the park and ride money to build parking lots at what are expected … but not guaranteed … to be city parks to be built at the Civic Center and Point Dume.

The parking lot money is being used to swing financing for the land purchase … which was viewed as a once in a lifetime opportunity for the city.

The Metro reallocation may mean a delay for other transportation projects in Malibu.

Things like widening the parking areas along P C H  … to make them safer.

The traffic light synchronization project along P C H in eastern Malibu appears to be unaffected.

But synchonizing the signals west of Pepperdine may get delayed … it appears.
