In news about SCE power poles causing fires … do you want the good news or the bad news first?
California’s utility regulation agency .. the CPUC … finally has a Widlfire Safety Division.
15 people … looking for power poles that are unsafe and could cause fire.
Now … the bad news.
It’s based in San Francisco … and it doesn’t get to Southern California much due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Thats according to the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper.
The state is spending 59 million dollars to fund the division’s work over the next four years, which will help grow its staff to 32 people.
Currently, 15 are employed.
They’ve completed 894 inspections and found 37 problems that required repairs.
Nearly all of that work was done in PG&E’s territory … not Southern California Edison.
The CPUC tells the San Francisco Chronicle that they hope to expand services to Southern California soon.
This editor’s note ….Zuma Beach FM Broadcasting – licensee of KBUU radio – suffered monetary damages in the fire and is a plaintiff in the lawsuits against Southern California Edison.

The Malibu Planning Commission meets tonight on the computers.
Nine rather routine items on the agenda.
It will be the first meeting of the group since it came in for heavy criticism from the city council …
The mayor and other councilman said the Planning Commission has been overstepping its bounds … always taking he hard-line approach when city rules or ordinances are fuzzy.
Members of the Planning Commission are generally outspoken in their interpretation of the city codes.
We can expect some reaction from them today.

Would you go swimming in the L A River?
How about Malibu Creek?
Lots of people do.
Water quality in a couple of Malibu Creek swimming holes … up the canyon … has been evaluated by Heal The bay.
The results? Meh.
Water quality was in the yellow zone … ewww … 78 percent of the time.
Yellow is not good … but not as bad as red … and Malibu Creek has not shown up in the red zone … unlike the L A River.
Yes … some people swim in the L A River.
Heal The Bay says Malibu Creek was in the green … all clear range just 22 percent of the time.
The Rock Pool is a popular swimming hole in Malibu Creek State Park that is still open.
It’s water quality has gone down a drastic 47 percent from the year before.
