Police in Aspen Colorado have identified the Malibu native who died New Years Eve … in a hotel at the resort … as Jonathan Hunter Irons, 26.

Irons was a Malibu native and graduate of Malibu high School … now a resident of Santa Monica.

Officers responded to a ski resort hotel in downtown Aspen around 8:45 p.m. on Monday.

According to an Aspen Police Department press release … Irons was with another man in the room … also in his mid-20s.

He was “awake but in an altered state of consciousness [and] also in distress,” the release says.

The other man is also believed to be a Malibu native and Malibu High graduate.

Irons was not breathing and had no pulse, and officers immediately began CPR.

A witness in the room said Irons had suffered a possible drug overdose, and officers administered Narcan, an antidote for an opioid overdose.

Police said ambulance crews then took over, and both men were transported to Aspen Valley Hospital, where Irons was pronounced dead.

Police in Aspen say they will pursue whomever sold the men the drug.

Detective Ritchie Zah told the Aspen Daily News  “would certainly be on our list of things to do.

“It’s too early to rule anything out at this point, but if it comes to that, then of course we will,” he told the Aspen newspaper. “It’s still pretty early.”

Syringes and a brown substance were to be shipped to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

Toxicology  results will likely take a few months, police said.
