Malibu Boys Make CIF Finals For 1st Time, Fall To Temple City 4-2

The Malibu Sharks baseball team made it all the way to the CIF baseball final game … and took the lead twice before falling 4-2 to Temple City.
The Sharks opened the game by scoring the game’s first run.
Louie Thrall hit a run-scoring single in the second inning … bringing home when Alec Morrison.
The Temple City boys tied the game in the third inning on a sacrifice fly to square the game at 1-1.
But in the fifth … Malibu starting pitcher William Tamkin hit a sacrifice fly to put the Sharks ahead 2-1.
At that point … Tamkin hit the limit of allowed pitches …
And Malibu coach Billy Ashley was forced to take him out after he scored the go-ahead run. Tamkin was benched due to number of pitches he was allowed to throw.
Temple City won … 4 to 2.
It was the third time in three years for Temple City to make it to the CIF championship game.
But the first … for the Malibu High Sharks.
They finish the year 14 and 13 … and were not favored to do well at the CIF torunament at all. They had a huge upset … a 6-4 win over Carey High School last week.
Carey had been on a 20 game winning streak.
Baseball has always been one of the brightest spots for Malibu High’s boys … but this is the first year in school history that they made it to the the CIF final.
