Survey This: Metro Wants Opinions On Its Lousy Bus Service
Written by 991KBU on June 15, 2018
Three years after Metro said it would eventually stop running buses out to Malibu … the agency is now planning to reimagine its bus system.
Whatever that means.
Metro is asking Malibu residents to take a “NextGen Bus Study Survey.”
The survey is online … the city says the idea is to design a new bus system that is more attractive to the residents of Malibu.
A little history here.
Metro last reimagined its bus system three years ago … and in a little noticed paragraph said it would stop running buses to “destinations outside its core service area” — destinations like Disneyland and Malibu.
When a KBUU reporter asked Metro about that otherwise unnoticed plan … Metro quickly walked it back.
But then last year … Metro actually cut the number of buses running from Santa Monica out to Malibu.
Standing room only and unhappy passengers.
So Metro reversed course and increased the number of buses.
Metro’s bus 534 is still frequently standing room only between the Malibu Civic Center and Santa Monica.
Meanwhile in Santa Monica … Metro built a $2 billion train to Los Angeles.
With no connections to the Malibu bus.
Metro bus route 534 stops two blocks away from the train station.
Trains frequently depart just as 30 or 40 or so Malibu bus passengers run up to the station … at Fourth Street.
Finding the Malibu bus stop from the train station is a secret … there are no maps or signs at the station or on the three blocks that passages must walk … to the secret bus stop at the Third and Broadway.
There is no feasible vehicle passenger drop off route from PCH to the train either.
Quite apparent to anyone passenger that no one from Metro has ever even tried this.
And Metro has just made it even more difficult to take the bus …
This week it has ended the sale of day passes on buses.
Now you have to buy them in advance.
So now … Metro is taking a survey for the next generation.
We have a link to it posted at the KBUU newswire.
