Las Virgenes Road is open today … the emergency vehicles have left.
The National Transportation Safety Commission and aviation experts are combing the hills just above the Las Virgenes water district offices continues to use it as a base camp at the helicopter crash site in Calabasas.
Nine people were killed Sunday morning … including of course… Kobe Bryant.
Aviation experts say evidence points to the pilot becoming disoriented in the fog
Bryant’s helicopter rapidly ascended … to avoid clouds and fog in the mountains along the 101 freeway in Calabasas.
N T S B official Jennifer Homendy said it will take several days to spot, map and collect crash debris from the mountainside.
The N T S B has help from the FBI to gather evidence…. which has sparked rumors.
Rumors that the NTSM official tried to swat down.
NEWSCART 75406 NTSB JENNIFER HAMANDI
“There have been a lot of questions about the FBI and why the FBI is here.
“The NTSB has a memorandum of understanding with the FBI to help us collect evidence.
They are essentially a force multiplier for the NTSB. There is no criminal portion to this investigation. “
The area is still heavily patrolled by sheriff’s deputies.
People are trying to sneak onto the mountainside to collect souveneirs … take pictures … or somehow profit.
Sheriff Alex Villanueva.

“Initially we had an issue with drones over the site … and we had unfortunately the paparazzi …
“Overnight we had people trying to access the site on foot.
“We were able to basically shoo everybody away and we established a perimeter and now we have it on horseback and on ATV and we are going to maintain that presence 24/7 until that whole area is done.”
The N T S B has a weather expert working on the case … and Board Member Jennifer Homendy said the public can help.
NEWSCART 75405 NTSB PHOTOS
“We have a request for the public. We are loking for photos of the weather in the area of the crash.
“If you have photos that can help us … again in the area of the crash … if you could send those photos to witness at N T S B dot gov.”
Meanwhile … tour buses have added Calabasas to their routes.
Businesses in the area are having problems getting deliveries … and customers are finding it hard to get thru the crowds.
Las Virgenes Road is … as we said … reopened to traffic.
But our new reality is that a major So Cal tourist attraction and shrine have suddenly emerged on one of the two major roads across the mountains above Malibu.
