Lamonte’s Rehab Bill On Gov’s Desk

The crushing burden of rehab centers taking over some residential neighborhoods in Malibu may see some relief.
That’s because Malibu has scored a significant victory at the California state capital.
The state Senate has approved an assembly bill … that has been championed and pushed by Malibu for several years.
Specifically … it was pushed up hill by Malibu city councilman Lou Lamonte.
He made this announcement Monday night ….
“The Californian Senate passed out rehab reform bill … unanimously … AB 3162 … and it will go to the governor for signature … and we will let you now when that happens.
[APPLAUSE FADEOUT]”
If the governor signs the law … it will crack down on existing rehab centers … and require new center to get tougher licenses.
Specifically .. the law requires treatment centers to offer treatment within the licensed facility, identified on a single license by street address.
And only residents of the licensed rehab facility shall receive services there.
That means that a rehab center would have to obtain separate licenses for facilities in a particular location … if they are spread out over several houses.
That gives cities and the state a tool to prevent neighborhoods from turning into rehab clinics.
Lou Lamonte’s bill has been 8 years in the working.
It’s now on the governor’s desk for signing.
