A petition drive has been started in Santa Monica … where a mother is furious that a scooter rider smashed into her son and badly injured him.
The petition calls for Santa Monica to ban motorized scooters from the beach path.
And to crackdown on scooters ridden on sidewalks.
Although the Santa Monica city code already bans motorized vehicles including scooters on bike paths and sidewalks … the police say they are not citing the scooters on the ocean front walk or bike path.
She says riders are disobeying the rules of the road, and causing serious injury to other citizens and themselves.
Danielle Borga writes on Change Dot Org that her son was “hit by a motorized scooter traveling at 20 mph on the beach path.
Borgia wrote that the “The pole of the scooter struck him in the mouth, breaking his two front teeth, slicing his lip open, and loosening six other permanent teeth, which he may lose completely,”
Two companies … Lime and Bird … have dropped more than 3 thousand electric scooters ontp the sidewalks of Santa Monica.
