B and Bs.

Vacation rentals.

A part of Malibu for decades … but exploding because of the Internet.

Two sides are squaring off for a battle royale at Malibu City Hall this evening.

Details: https://www.radiomalibu.net/battle-royale-at-city-hall-tonight/

Also on the agenda tonight at Malibu City Hall ….

The issue of how to handle a Metro requirement that the City of Malibu build a 2 acre parking lot on Point Dume.

And the city council will start the process of deciding what to do with that vacant lot on Point Dume … as well as two other vacant parcels it just purchased at the Civic Center.

All that starts at 5 … one hour before that … the city council will go into secret session with the city attorney to talk about legal matters.

That’s not unusual.

What is unusual is that this week … the agenda specifically mentions the possibility of the city filing two lawsuits.

No details of course on that … yet.

We will keep you posted.

There’s a Community Safety Fair this weekend at Malibu City Hall.

Technically … it’s the Malibu Safety and Preparedness Expo.

Part of the  fiun … a Bike Safety Rodeo … in the parking lot.

A little city with traffic lights … stop signs … all that fun stuff will be set up.

It gives kids an opportunity to learn all aspects of traffic, pedestrian and bicycle safety.

Anyone who completes the Bike Safety Rodeo will receive a free bicycle helmet, while supplies last.

And there’s a onelottery to give away a free bicycle.

Loaner bikes and helmets for both children and adults will be available for use on the course

As for the Preparedness Fair … the event is billed as an easy way for families to get a head start on making their emergency plans.

In addition to many emergency preparedness classes, numerous vendors will have demonstrations and sales of preparedness products and services.

Classes will be short and informative … on topics like crisis first aid, fire and earthquake insurance, first aid for kids, preparedness for seniors and pets, and active shooter preparedness.

All participants at the Expo will receive a free raffle ticket for a chance to win valuable prizes such as gift cards from local restaurants and shops and emergency supplies.

KBUU FM will be there to discuss our emergency communications capabilities …. to keep you informed when the power goes out.

And it’s your chance to pick up one of the much sought after Radio Malibu bumper stickers.

A girls youth basketball league … for young ladies in kindergarten through eighth grade . is being started by the City.

The league will start on December 1, but parents need to register their children online here by Oct. 12.

Games will be held on Saturdays, and practice days are to be determined.

To kick off the new league and encourage young girls to participate in sports, the city started a social media campaign #PlayLikeAGirlMalibu. Community members are encouraged to share sports shots with the hashtag – then, they could be shared on the city’s social media pages.
