In other Malibu news:

L A County Beaches and Harbors is going back for another five year permit to pile up sand in front of the lifeguard headquarters … maintenance buildings … snack bar and bathrooms at Zuma Beach.

The existing five year permit has expired.

Each fall … county bulldozers scoop sand up into 10 foot high berms to protect the structures from winter storm waves.

The ocean line has been inching closer to the buildings every year.

Coastal Commission staff members are recommending that the permit be granted … with the condition that seaweed and other biological material not be removed duing construction.

That stuff is called “wrack” – and it’s an important part of the beach ecosystem.

L A County crews methodically remove wrack from Zuma Beach very morning … to tidy up the beach and remove floating plastic.

That issue … not addressed in the coastal permit.

Heavy traffic this morning on PCH.

A big traffic jam developed eastbound on the highway … near the Carbon Canyon traffic signal.

A construction crew was blocking the right lane up into the 8 o’clock hour.

Both the Edison company and LA County waterworks have been working in the area.

No official word on who was the culprit this time.

But overnight projects sometimes don’t get wrapped up on time.

Rocks fell onto Mulholland Highway near Malibou Lake early this morning.

At least one car hit the rocks … its tires flattened … and a tow truck had to salvage it.

This was on Mulholland highway near Lake Vista … a mile east of Cornell.
