Today is election day.
Polls are open until 8 p-m.
There are no local issues on the ballot.
Like the rest of the state … Malibu will be voting for the top two candidates for statewide offices.
Three men are running for the two seat runoff to represent the Malibu area in Congress.
Incumbent representative Ted Lieu as expected to coast to an easy first place finish.
Two challengers are also trying to unseat elected Sheriff Jim McDonnell … who serves as the police chief of Malibu.
The election has not generated much excitement in Malibu … we haven’t seen one campaign sign.

The Malibu planning commission last night clashed with city staff over a matter that was decided two weeks ago.
A majority of the commissioners was angry.

Also at the planning commission last night … a plan to replace the creaky staircase that goes down the cliffs at Point Dume
It was approved … but no gate.

In news from down the coast … Santa Monica planning commissioners will hold their meeting on the third street promenade tonight.
The commissioners will walk up the promenade as they discuss why parts of it are becoming deserted.
The Santa Monica daily press reports that commissioners are worried that retail stores are in trouble nationwide … and disappearing from the third street promenade … particularly the northern end.
Areas that used to be lively day and night are now becoming deserted when the tourists go home.
Difficulties caused by new traffic patterns and more expensive parking … apparently not on the list.
That meeting starts at 6 o’clock tonight.

Once again … construction crews will be repaving streets in the Civic Center area tonight.
Grinding crews will be working on Civic Center Way near the library … Cross Creek Road … and Stuart Ranch Road.
Work will be done starting at 9 p.m.
Tomorrow and Thursday nights … the ground-up streets will be repaved.
Watch for flaggers … but traffic will be maintained through the construction zone.
