Written by on October 1, 2018

This is KBUU News – the headlines:

  • =  Rain is on the forecast … but Santa Ana blackouts are still possible this fall in Malibu.
  • =  And the potential for power blackouts … a major point of discussion … at last weekend’s public safety fair at Malibu City Hall.
  • =  A lonely and fruitless search for a missing man continues on the big mountain above Malibu.
  • =  A 70 million dollar swindle over a blufftop Malibu mansion.
  • =  And the Malibu High sharks hang on for a tight win in the fog.

This is Malibu’s only local daily news. It’s the   ((((  Monday   ))) edition of the news … from Radio Malibu  …. F-M 99 point 1 K B U U. Good morning … I’m Hans Laetz reporting.

Surf on south facing beaches will peak at 6 to 10 feet in Malibu today. Occasional sets 12 feet are possible.  Surf will slowly subside late tonight … but will surf will remain up tomorrow.

This late breaking story from Washington: That US Supreme Court just had a major victory to California coastal access advocates. Any major defeat to private property advocates. Details:  https://www.radiomalibu.net/coastal-wins-big-at-scotus/

Santa Ana winds have not developed this fall … so far …  and knock on wood.

But they were a major topic of discussion at last weekend’s Malibu Public Safety Fair .. at Malibu City Hall. Details:  https://www.radiomalibu.net/fire-chief-city-hall-blackouts/

The family of a man missing in the mountains above Malibu continue to search and hope.  And they are not supporting rumors innuendo about some sort of cover-up … or lack of help from the sheriff’s office. Details: https://www.radiomalibu.net/family-keeps-hopes-alive/

No Santa Anas are in the long range predictions this week,

In fact .. Malibu will go from summer directly to winter this week.

A winter style rain storm is going to hit starting tomorrow.

But the hot nasty winds hit Malibu an average of 6 days … every October.

In the last 35 years … we have had as many as 10 Santa Ana days in October … and as few as zero.

The Los Angeles Times picks up the story this weekend of the 70 million Dollar Bluff top mansion above Malibu once owned by the son of an African dictator.

The mansion was owned by the Playboy millionaire … and onetime Pepperdine student … named Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, .

As we were reported for the local newspaper 10 years ago … the US government seized the mansion on Sweetwater Mesa … overlooking both Malibu Pier and the Civic Center.

It was purchased with money that belong to the impoverished nation of Equatorial Guinea.

The feds took over the property … sold it to a private party for a bargain price …. the private party flipped it  … and it’s that flip that is the cause of the lawsuit.

The LA Times has the details … and reports that a Malibu real estate deal may have perpetrated a second swindle.

Mauricio Umansky … an executive of the high-end Beverly Hills real estate firm … The Agency… stands accused in federal court of colluding with a secret buyer and then flipping the house for huge profits.

An insurance company is on the hook for three million dollars …. they claim collusion between the agent and a secret partner.

If the insurance claims are true  … and it has not been proved in court … it could mean that the realtor Umansky shortchanged charities in the Central African nation out of millions of dollars they should have received as part of a deal struck between the home’s owner and the Justice Department.

Umansky and his firm strongly deny any wrongdoing … they say the insurance company is making “unnecessary and scurrilous allegations.”

We have a link to the L-A Times story … posted on the KBUU Newswire.
