Santa Monica Malibu school superintendent Ben Drati is in negotiations with a Malibu group … over the removal of P C B from Malibu High School.
America Unites is the parent group headed by Jennifer Denicola.
It sued the district several years ago … and won a verdict that they say forced the district to expand removal of small amounts of P C B at the high school.
But that P C B removal program is in hiold … as the district is shifting to tearing down the old buildings and basically buulding a new high school.
Malibu voters will ahve to approve a bind issue for that to happen.
Drati says this change in plans will postpone the intended PCB removal schedule.
He says he is consulting America Unites … and plan to soon announce a mutually agreed expanded set of protocols and standards for P C B at the school.
All this is part of the district’s new Pathway program … in which it is closing Juan Cabrillo Elementary and shifting those kids to Point Dume.
It’s a wholesale shift in the way kids are educated in Malibu.
Drati will be at Malibu High tonight from 6 to 7 to discuss those changes with parents.
——
The parent company of Promises Malibu … one of the rehab centers cashing in on the Malbu name … has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
But … no cheering … they are still going to make money on the deal.
Elements Behavioral Health Incorporated owns Promises Malibu … which operates the celebrity addiction-rehabilitation center.
Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears are reputably clients.
EBH filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Wednesday … in a federal bankruptcy court in Delaware.
The Wall Street Journal reports that the company has $49 million in assets against $207 million in liabilities.
EBH plans to use the Chapter 11 process to sell itself for 65 million dollars to a company owned by a New York-based hedge fund … BlueMountain Capital Management … and some guy big investor named Benjamin Klein.
The bad news for Malibu …. Promises Malibu will remain open while the corporate games are being played.
