Malibu Canyon murder update: 

Sheriff’s homicide detectives were back gathering evidence last Friday.

In 2016 and 2017  … there were 6 reported shootings of people or vehicles in or around Malibu Canyon.

But .,. they were all clustered in 2016 and 2017.

There were no shootings after the end of July last year.

In Capetown South Africa … Malibu resident Howdy Kabrins could be seen crying and softly banging his fist on the court bench …. as he heard his daughter’s boyfriend get convicted of her murder.

Two teenagers were rescued early yesterday by Malibu Search and Rescue team workers after a car crashed over the side of a road in the mountains above Malibu.

The crash happened at about 3 a.m. on Stunt Road about one mile up the mountain from Mulholland Highway.

Two teens — a 19-year-old man and a 15-year-old girl — were pulled from the wreckage,.

The young man was airlifted to a hospital while the girl was transferred by an ambulance.

The Malibu Search and Rescue team was founded in 1977.

It’s an all volunteer group made up of sheriff’s reserve deputies, civilian volunteers and support personnel.

Next Monday is the deadline to file comments about a proposed campground that the mountains resource and conservation authority plans to build above Malibu … in Puerco Canyon.

But it’s important to know that the M R C A is going through some legal hoops here …. and will not make a decision based on those particular comments.

Under California’s environmental quality act … or CEQA … the MRCA is doing a scoping for the project.

It is required to hear what specific environmental concerns must be studied in the environmental impact report.

The State has a very specific CEQA checklist that the MRCA must evaluate the project under.

The real issue will come after an environmental impact report is written … when residents and the city will be able to challenge how the MRCA evaluated the project against the CEQA checklist.

The deadline to raise environmental issues like that is Wednesday … in writing … and we have a link to email address on the KBUU newswire.

4th of July fireworks shows at Malibu’s Civic Center may be in trouble.

Hard for us to get details over the weekend .

But a KBUU listener who was involved in the pyrotechnics says they have lost their tugboat.

No tugboat no barge .

No barge no fireworks.

Fireworks are still scheduled at Paradise Cove and at Broad Beach.
