The retail brand Fred Segal will restart operations in the 4,000-square-foot former movie house this winter..…
They are set to open in the Malibu Village shopping center early next year … according to the Los Angeles Times.
Fred Segal’s brand was sold to a company called Sandow Media in 2012.
Fred Segal started on Melrose Avenue in L A in the early 1960s … was a retail visionary who, after striking gold in
In 1973 he bought the ramshackle 1920s-era motel-turned-apartment complex on Cross Creek … and turned it into Malibu Country Mart.
In 1980, Segal developed another cluster of boutiques across the street at Malibu Village .
Fred Segal … will open this winter in the old movie house in Malibu Civic Center.

Housing prices continue to escalate in Southern California.
The average median house price surged 8.2 percent in the 12 months ending in May … according to Corelogic.
And economists are blaming baby boomers.
It seems that empty-nesters are refusing to downsize … in Southern California … and are staying put rather than retiring and selling out.
The inventory of houses for sale has dropped nearly 6 percent in the past year … according to Redfin.
New housing is tough to find in Southern California due to NIMBY opposition and a shortage of land.
Is it a bubble?
Realty real estate experts say no … and that housing right now is much more affordable than it was before the big crash in 2008.
That’s because interest rates are still relatively low … and California paychecks are high … in a historical context.
