Malibu … Santa Monica and LA schools will all be in session today.
The wind storm approaching tonight has the potential of being the strongest of the season. And the National Weather Service is using a term we’ve never seen before … “Extreme Red Flag Warnings.”
The National Weather Service says tonight’s windstorm may break records … for the difference in air pressure that is setting up to create what they call a remarkable and dangerous event.
If everything comes together as forecast … we can see 60 to 70 mph gusts
not only in the mountains but in some of the valleys as well.
There could well be 80 mph gusts at the top of the mountains near Malibu.
The National Weather Service says this will result in a significant threat of large fast-moving fires and wind damage.
Downed trees, powerlines, and broken signs or overhangs may blow around.
Power outages are likely, says the NWS.
Wind-driven wave damage is possible over at Catalina Island.
Northeast winds will be increasing late Tuesday night, then will peak on Wednesday at 25 to 40 mph on the beaches.
We will see potential damaging isolated gusts up to 70 mph in the Santa Monica Mountains.
On Thursday … winds will continue … only slightly diminished … until about 6 p-m on Halloween night.

At sunrise … the Getty Fire just east of Malibu was only 5 percent contained.
It had grown to 650 acres.
Firefighters and aircraft have made good progress in slowing the spread of the fire. Firefighters are actively engaged in structure protection throughout the evacuation zone.
Aircraft and dozer teams are continuing to strengthen containment lines. The big problem: the Santa Ana wind event that is scheduled to begin again Tuesday at 11 PM.
Low relative humidity and gusty wind will once again pose a threat for firefighters Tuesday night through mid-day Thursday.
More than 10,000 structures (both residential and commercial) are in the City of LA’s Mandatory Evacuation Zone.
Eight residences have been destroyed and six residences have been damaged
Fire licked the edges of Getty Center, but the art is safe, the museum says.
