All those sirens on Pacific Coast Highway yesterday … at around 5;30.
L A County lifeguards and fire helicopters rescued four people stuck on a beach as the tide came in.
This was below the bluffs near La Piedra Beach… near Decker Canyon Road.
Some were rescued by chopper.
Some were taken out by jet ski.
No one was injured.

The large number of Malibu houses that have burned down has also reignited a few neighborhood controversies over ocean views.
It seems that the destruction of some homes has opened up views … and prompted some neighbors to file for view corridors over the burned out lots.
The city of Malibu has a view protection ordinance that applies to landscaping.
There’s an 18 foot height limit and other restrictions on buildings baked into the zoning codes…
It’s a complicated process involving city inspections … mediation … and other technicalities.
Structures have height restrictions … of course … but the city view protection ordinance primarily relates to trees or bushes.
The city planning department proposes a one year freeze on new applications for protected view corridors .. due to the fire.
Exact details have not yet been released on the city plan … but it goes before the Planning Commissioners next Monday.
City manager Reva Feldman says the purpose of the ordinance is to protect fire victims from having artificially “improved” views by the fire.

17 percent of the biomass in the world’s oceans will disappear in the next 80 years If the world’s greenhouse gas emissions stay at the present rate.
Thats according to research published yesterday in the scientific journal … the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
While warmer water is the biggest factor, climate change also produces oceans that are more acidic and have less oxygen, which also harms sea life.
And it will be the largest animals that suffer the most … like whales.
Already … this year … grey whales appear to be dying in record numbers along the California coast.
Quoting now … ”We will see a large decrease in the biomass of the oceans,” if the world doesn’t slow climate change.”
That’s study coauthor William Cheung, a marine ecologist at the University of British Columbia. “There are already changes that have been observed”.
But if the world reduces carbon pollution, losses can be limited to only about 5%, the study said

Yesterday we reported that Jefferson Wagner voted for the California Strategies contract, he abstained after mentioning that he saw there were three other votes in favor of it. Wagner also praised Caljfornia Strategies for its work on the Lou La Monte sponsored rehab regulation bill, and also said he would work with California Strategies closely on the Malibu lagoon issue. KBUU regrets the error.

Maybe it was a lost bag … or a lousy 6 dollar hot dog.
Perhaps he got trampled on the white curb.
