For the first time …it appears that a Malibu resident has a decent chance of winning a seat on the five member Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
That’s because Malibu will join the San Fernando Valley … in new county supervisorial maps approved by a citizens commission yesterday.
The maps place Malibu and Santa Monica together in a county supervisorial district that also includes the Hollywood Hills and almost all of the San Fernando Valley.
Two million people in total per district.
Henry Stern plans to announce his candidacy at an internet event at noon today.
Stern … joins several politicians jockeying for position as the every-10-years redistricting dance plays out.
Stern cannot run for re-election to the state senate … he’s termed out.,
Same story for assembly member Richard Bloom of santa Monica .. who is also trying to rotate in to the county supervisorial seat.
With incumbent supervisor Sheila Kuehl termed out … the open third district supervisorial seat will likely attract a long list of candidates.
Stern … a Malibu High graduate … has worked hard on issues important both to Malibu and the San Fernando Valley … which is the major population nexus in the new third district.
Closing the leaky Aliso Canyon methane storage area … creating electric microgrids to challenge the power company … open space in the Santa Monica Mountains.
And there is one very important item for Malibu. …
The new county supervisor will get to make two appointments to LACOE … the LA County Office of Education committee on school districts.
If elected … Stern is a Malibu resident and Malibu high school graduate… and that may change the dynamics of the Malibu school district independence drive.
Stern would get to appoint someone to presumably replace Barry Snell… a Santa Monica resident who has tried to kill the Malibu school district divorce.
The primary election will be in June… if a runoff election is needed it will be in November.

The man accused of murdering a sleeping man in Malibu Creek State Park … and shooting at others as a sniper … has been found fit for trial
Anthony Rauda has been found competent for trial.
The Thousand Oaks Acorn reports that the ruling was handed down last month.
No announcement was issued by the District Attorney’s office.
Rauda has been in jail since sheriff;’s deputies found his hidden camping place … ironically very close to the Lost Hills sheriff’s station.
He also faces 10 counts of attempted murder … for allegedly shooting into vehicles on Malibu Canyon Road over years.
Rauda faces a possible life sentence for the alleged killing of Tristan Beaudette.
The 35-year-old father was shot inside his tent as he slept with his two toddler girls in the campground … off Malibu Canyon Road.
Rauda’s trial has been on hold while a mental competency investigation and hearing were undertaken.
With the decision that he is able to understand the murder charge against him … the trial resumes with a scheduling hearing in January.

City councilman Bruce Silverstein is denying a claim by mayor Paul Grisanti … made at Monday’s city council meeting … that Silverstein has gone back to delete incendiary comments from social media platforms.
The mayor made that comment in a discussion over the independent investigation into the Jefferson Wagner affidavit.
The investigators found that allegations of city hall criminality and cronyism were not valid… and
Silverstein calls the mayor’s statement .. about scrubbing social media accounts … “false and defamatory.”
Writing in Nextdoor … Silverstein says .. and we quote … “I did NOT scrub (or delete) my posts about the now-former City Manager.”
He says the posts that were deleted … were in a Nextdoor group that was deleted by someone else.
Silverstein also writes that most of the things he posted in the Nextdoor group also were posted on his City Councilmember Facebook page.
