Big Checklist Items For City Council Tonight

Malibu’s city council has an incredible amount of work on the agenda today.
= There’s the final approval year next year’s budget.
= Discussion on what the priority will be for the 14 large construction projects that the city would like to build over the next six years.
= A vote on opening contract discussions with the L-A County sheriff’s office.
= A decision on yanking the contract for city ads from the Malibu Surfside News and placing them in the Malibu Times.
= Two items about controlling rats and other vermin without poison.
= Possibly requiring businesses to locks their trash bins.
= And making tentative plans on what to do with Charmlee park. …. destroyed by fire … and about to pass into city control form the M R C A.
= A new contract with The People Concern for homeless outreach services ,… ab out a quarter million dollars.
The team has placed 30 people in permanent housing, and another 18 in interim housing.
= And sure to come up during the call to the public is the city’s proposed ordinance to prevent the conversion of small houses into mega-mansions.
The city council has asked city staff to come up with an ordinance.
It goes before the Planning Commission for first review next week … but Realtors and private property advocates are raising major public objections.
